PHOTONICS COVID-19 CALL PUBLISHED - DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS 11TH JUNE 2020
The European Commission published a photonics related COVID-19 call today: SC1-PHE-CORONAVIRUS-2020-2B Medical technologies, Digital tools and Artificial Intelligence (AI) analytics to improve surveillance and care at high Technology Readiness Levels (TRL). The deadline for proposals is 11th June 2020 at 17:00 Brussels time.
The call for proposals seeks for innovation actions which
1) Support solutions that are close-to-market (TRL 7) in one of the COVID-19 areas that have already received, or are about to receive, the CE marking to proceed to large scale testing, piloting and deployment operations in critical healthcare areas (or wherever else is relevant) (type 1);
2) Support market innovation (from lab-to-fab) for further developing and maturing innovative solutions that have already been validated in lab environments (TRL 6-7 or higher) with the aim to help accelerate developments and achieve conformity assessment (CE marking) (type 2).
The proposed actions could encompass a combination of tools and technologies, such as: microelectronics, micro/nano/cyber-physical systems; bio-functionalized chips and biosensor arrays; bio-photonics; graphene or related materials (GRM); data, AI and robotics; pathogen detection technologies; e-health, telemedicine and digital solutions.

The 9th Laser & Health Academy (LA&HA®) Symposium
More than 80 clinical lecturers from around the world and over 600 medical professionals assembled together last week at the 9th annual Laser & Health Academy (LA&HA®) Symposium to present, share and discuss their latest clinical experiences in the field of medical laser treatments, with lecture topics presented in parallel sessions according to LA&HA’s three main research areas: 1) Aesthetics, Dermatology & Surgery; 2) Dentistry and 3) Gynecology.
In addition to receiving the latest knowledge and insights on medical laser trends and topics directly from world-leading clinical experts, Symposium participants who are registered Fotona system owners also receive access to an incredible wealth of invaluable lecture content and other educational material via the LA&HA website.
And as usual, there was no shortage of opportunities for networking, fun and socializing with lecturers and fellow participants this year, thanks to the lively dinners & accompanying social events sponsored by Fotona.

The 8th International Laser and Health Academy Symposium meets in Portoroz
The annual LA&HA symposium, which for the first time had to close registration early this year due to exceptionally high demand, has become the largest medical event of its kind in its home country.
The Symposium’s lecture topics were presented in parallel sessions according to LA&HA’s three main research categories: 1) Aesthetics, Dermatology & Surgery; 2) Dentistry and 3) Gynecology. All symposium participants will also receive access an incredible wealth of this invaluable lecture content via the Fotona App and the LA&HA website.
As usual, there were also plenty of opportunities for fun and socializing at the Symposium this year, as well as networking with lecturers and fellow participants thanks to the lively dinners & accompanying social events sponsored by Fotona.

New opening for a senior post-doc position in Bologna for engineering of optoelectronic organic devices for smart-system sensors
The ISMN-CNR is opening a senior post-doc position in Bologna (Italy) within the “Flexible and Wearable Organic and Hybrid Electronics and Photonics” research topic and H2020 Photonics PPP project MOLOKO (Multiplex phOtonic sensor for pLasmonic-based Online detection of contaminants in milK).
